Why buy units from an Essex habitat bank

If your development cannot meet the 10% biodiversity net gain requirement on site, you can buy off-site units. Where those units come from affects how many you need. New to the rules? Start with our plain guide to biodiversity net gain.

Full value for local sites

Units from a habitat bank in the same planning authority area or National Character Area as your development count in full under the statutory metric. Units from further away count for less, so you need more of them.

Habitat secured for 30 years

Priors Farm is secured by a Section 106 agreement and James Farm by a conservation covenant. Both commit the land to habitat creation and management for at least 30 years, as the law requires.
